Cellular Jail, Port Blair


Cellular Jail of Port Blair is declared as National Monument for the sacrifice of freedom fighters such as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Dr. Diwan Singh Kalepani, Yogendra Shukla, Bhai Parmanand, and Maulana Ahmadullah. The original structure of the jail had seven wings with three storied buildings. Now only three wings and central tower remains and these are converted into a National Memorial. The complex has a Museum, an Art gallery, and a Photo gallery.

Important Events & Festivals

The Sound and Light show in the Cellular Jail depicts the saga of the Indian freedom struggle. (Hindi show : 6.00 pm to 7.15 pm except Monday, Wednesday & Friday, English show : 7.15 pm)

How to reach

Regular flights are available from Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata and other major cities to Port Blair. Regular passenger ship services are available to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata , Visakhapatnam and it takes around 3-4 days.
