Allahabad Fort & Patalpuri Temple

Features

Allahabad fort was originally built by Emperor Ashoka and later restored by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1583. The fort is located on the banks of Yamuna River near the confluence site. With huge outer wall intact, the fort has three gateways however part of the fort is open for the public. It has three galleries edged by side towers. The major attraction of the fort is Ashoka Pillar dating back to 232 BC and has ancient inscriptions. Zenana, Palace of Mariam-uz-Zamani (Jodha Bai) and Saraswati Koop (origin) are other attractions. Patalpuri temple and Akshaya Vat is underground temple located at the eastern wall of the fort.
