Kangla Fort, Imphal


Kangla fort was ancient capital of Manipur and the traditional seat of the past Meetei rulers of Manipur. It was situated on both sides (western and eastern) of the bank of the Imphal River. But now it remains only on the western side of the bank. The fort was in ruined condition and the government has taken new construction. The palace complex hold many historical and holy structures. The Ibudhou Pakhangba temple is visited by local and Old Govindji temple is closed. Kanga Museum exhibits archaeological and historical objects relating to Manipur region. Famous Shree Shree Govindajee Temple is located nearby.

How to reach

Nearest airport is Imphal. Nearest railway station is at Dimapur in Nagaland with 215 km. Imphal is connected by road transport to Dimapur and Guwahati. MSRTC buses, private buses, private taxis are available to reach from other cities.
