Umiam lake (Barapani), Shillong


Umiam lake is manmade water reservoir created by damming the Umiam river in the year 1960. It is also first Hydel power project in the North-east region of India. The Lake is popular spot in Shillong for the water sport and adventure facilities. Thousands of tourists come here for water sports such as kayaking, water cycling, scooting and boating.

Nearest airport is Umroi airport with 35 km from Shillong. Nearest railway station is Guwahati railway station with 110 km. ASTC buses, MTDC buses, private buses, taxis are available from Guwahati and other cities.
