Pemayangtse Monastery, Pelling


Pemayangtse Monastery is the principal monastery of Ngingma sect (one of the four sects of Tibetan Buddhism) built in the year 1705 AD by Gyalwa Lhatsun Namkha Jigme. The three storeyed monastery has been reconstructed and renovated from time to time. The monastery has outstanding collection of Buddhist ancient items, sculptures, paintings, manuscripts etc.

Important Events & Festivals

The Chaam festival is held every year, on the 28th and 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Tibetan Calendar (February month).

Nearest airport is Bagdogra airport with 160 km. Nearest railway station is Jalpaiguri railway station with 170 km. Private taxis and SSRTC buses are available from Gangtok, Siliguri and other cities.
