Bhandardara, Ahmednagar


Located in Ahmednagar district, Bhandardara is one of the beautiful hill stations of Maharashtra and popular among nature lovers and trekkers. Nested in lush green surroundings, it is ideal destination for weekend break from Mumbai and Pune. It is also a base point for Kalsubai, Harishchandragad and Ratangad treks. Arthur Lake, Amriteshwar Temple, Ratangad are major attractions nearby to explore.

Arthur Lake

Also known as Bhandardara, Arthur Lake is located in dense greenery and is fed by waters from the Wilson Dam. Boat rides are also available at the lake.

Kalsubai, Ahmednagar

Kalsubai is the highest peak point of the mountain range of Sahyadri with easy trekking. Kalsubai temple is located at the topmost peak of Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra. The highest peak was used as watching tower during Maratha Empire and now offers fantastic view of surrounding forests and places. Harishchandragad, Ahmednagar

Harishchandragad is fort hill in Ahmednagar district and popular trekking site with moderate difficulty. The fort is ideal for camping as the fort has around 9 caves to stay. Carry enough water, food and clothes for camping as no arrangement on the fort.

Attractions of the fort include-

Kedareshwar Cave is the main cave where big Shivlinga along with sculptures are carved. The huge cave has Shivlinga surrounded by water and four carved pillars. Kokan Kada is cliff where spectacular view of the Kokan can be seen. Taramati Peak is topmost point of the fort which offers breath taking view of Naneghat and Murbad forest. Saptatirtha Pushkarni is lake built during old times and has temple constructions with idols of Lord Vishnu. Nageshwar temple is known for its artistic carvings and has 1.5 m long sculpture of Lord Vishnu in the sleeping posture. Harishchandreshwar temple is amazing specimen of the rock carving sculptures of ancient times. More Information

Ratangad Fort

Ratangad fort is one of the popular trekking destinations in Maharashtra. The trekking route composes of green valley road with medium difficulty level. The fort 2000 years old was acquired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from Moghul. The ancient fort was one of Shivaji Maharaj’s favourite forts and has numerous water cisterns and caves. The fort has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called 'Nedhe' or 'Eye of the Needle'. The fort has different gates such as Ganesh, Hanuman, Konkan and Trimbak. At top, the panoramic view of the Bhandardara dam and lush green valley is mind blowing. The base village of trek is 22 km from Shendi/ Bhandardara and is connected by both road and ferry.

Amriteshwar Temple is located at Ratanwadi at the bottom of Ratangad fort. The temple was built in 1100 AD was constructed in the Hemadpanthi style of architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and known for outstanding architecture and carvings.

Agasti Rishi Ashram

Agasti Rishi Ashram is situated on the bank of the Pravara River and is visited by many tourists. It is said that Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita visited Sage Agastya at this place and Rishi gave Lord Ram a miraculous arrow to kill Ravan.

Umbrella Falls

Wilson dam gets overflow during monsoon and creates awesome water flow which is known as Umbrella falls. Many visitors visit this stunning place to record the memories of good time in their camera.

Randha Falls

Randha falls is on Pravara River where it descends below with its full force during monsoon. It attracts many visitors for its scenic waterfall in rainy season.
