Located on Mumbai-Nashik road on Sahyadri hills, Igatpuri is small hill station with just 2 hours from Mumbai and an hour journey from Nashik. Tringalwadi Fort

Tringalwadi Fort is hill fort near Tringalwadi village which is 7 km from Igatpuri railway station. The hill fort is now in ruined condition and now remains are the entrances, broken structures and Hanuman temple. The origin and creator of the temple is not known and said to be of 10th century based on the Pandav caves. The top of fort is green plateau and the ruined structure of palace. It also offers wonderful view of surrounding greenery and Tringalwadi Lake. Jain caves are located at the base of the fort and dates back to 10th century. The cave is dedicated to first Jain Tirthankar, Adinathji and has carved ceilings. The fort is striking trekking destination especially in monsoon and easy trekking level with 2 hours’ time from base village.

Tringalwadi Lake

Tringalwadi Lake is one the beautiful lakes of Igatpuri and popular for bird watching.

Ghatandevi Temple

Ghatandevi Mandir is dedicated to Ghatandevi who believed to be the Protector of Ghats by locals. The majestic peaks of Harihar, Durvar Utvad and Trimak form as striking backdrop to the temple. The beautiful temple in gorgeous valley and serven environment is one of the popular attractions of Igatpuri. Behind the temple lies the Tringalwadi Fort.

Railway Lake

Railway Lakes are two small lakes near Igatpuri railway station. The bigger with the rest house, is the railway lake near the village Girnar. Another lake very near the pumping house is a new municipal lake.

Bhatsa River valley

The Bhatsa River valley is located in the basins of Bhatsa River at the end of the Thal Ghat which is just before entering Igatpuri from Mumbai. The valley is a scenic spot with lush greenery and majestic rocks formed by the river.

Vaitarna Dam

Vaitarna Dam on the Vaitarna River offers the magnificent scenery of water and greenery amidst the stony peaks of the Western Ghats. The dam was built in 1950 and located near Jen Jon Holiday Homes which also arranges water sports such as boating, rowing, kayaking and angling. The dam is also one of the sources of water and electricity to Mumbaikers.

Spiritual Centres in Igatpuri

Vipasana International Academy (https://www.dhamma.org) and Vipassana Research Institute (http://www.vridhamma.org)

Also known as Dhamma Giri (Hill of Dhamma) is one of the world's largest Vipassana meditation centres. The Academy is one of the world's largest centers for the practice of Vipassana, offering on-going 10 day meditation courses, serving upto 600 people per course, throughout the year. It is co-located with the Vipassana Research Institute at Igatpuri in Maharashtra, approximately three hours’ drive from Mumbai. The Vipassana Research Institute (VRI) was established in 1985 for the purpose of conducting research into the sources and applications of the Vipassana Meditation Technique.

The Vipassana Center has the huge golden Myanmar gate, Vijay Stambh and around 20 huge Buddha paintings at the enquiry office. On request, visitors are allowed to watch a 17 minute video narrating the history, importance, rules and regulations of Dhamma Giri.

Five Waterfalls

Five waterfalls are the monsoon hot spot of Igatpuri. It is located ahead Ghatandevi, the rough road leading to the railway line begins. Across the railway line, while climbing down, falling one below the other are waterfall paradise.

Camel Valley

Camel valley in Igatpuri is situated nearby to the imposing Bhatsa River Valley. The main attraction of the valley is the stunning waterfall which falls from a height of 1000 feet.

Vihigaon Waterfall

Vihigaon waterfall is located around 7 km from Kasara and 10 km from Igatpuri near Vihingaon village. The waterfall is located in lush green forest and offers stunning view of cascading water flow.

Trekking Spots in Igatpuri

Avandha Fort

Avandha Fort is located at 4300 foot high above the sea level. The fort is popular for rock cut caves, fortifications and five water reservoirs. The entrance of the fort is carved in a single rock.The fort is also famous for trekking with high difficulty level from the base villages of Girwadi and Kadwa Colony. From the top, Patta fort, Aad Fort, and Mhasoba hill can be seen.

Bitangad fort

This fort is located at a height of 4000 feet above the sea level and a medium grade trek. The area of the fort is small on the top hence it can be said that the fort was used as a watch tower same as the Aundh fort. Also there are very less remnants on the fort. The fort has place where one can stay overnight to enjoy the scene during the night. It takes 1 hour to reach from the base village. Any time you can visit the fort.

Kavni Fort

Kavni Fort is placed at 2500 feet high above the sea level and a medium grade trek.

The trek at this fort is medium level and required minimum one hour to reach the top from base village Kavani. The fort has good formed entrance, caves, structures, water reservioes and bastion. Kalsubai mountain range, Trimbak mountain range, Tringalwadi and some other forts can be seen from the fort.

Pattagad fort

Pattagad fort is hill fort located at above 4500 foot high above sea level. The places of tourist interest the fort are caves, temple of Ashtabhuja Devi, bastions, water tanks and ruins structures of palace. Pattagad trek is with easy trekking level and takes an hour from base village Pattawadi.

Balwantgad fort

Balwantgad fort is small fort in Kasara region with easy trek from base village Maal. The places of tourist attractions are long wall of bastions, ancient carved items and ruined structures. There is not much to watch on the fort but it offers fantastic view of Tringalwadi fort and the Kasara-Igatpuri train track.
