Jawhar, Dahanu

Features

Jawhar is city of newly formed district Palghar about 130 km from Mumbai, 240 km from Pune and 80 km from the city of Nashik. Located on Mumbai-Nashik road, it is famous for hill station, trekking and tribal cultural heritage. It is also called Mahabaleshwar of Thane District and also known for Warli Paintings. The main attractions of Jawhar includes Jaivilas Palace (its architecture), Hanuman Temple/Point (Sunrise Point) and Sunset Point. The places of tourist interest are not much but cool ambience of nature will surely give you peaceful break from busy and polluted city life.

Tourist Places of Jawhar

Jaivilas Palace

Also known as Raj Bari, Jaivilas Palace was built by Raje Yashwant Rao Mukane and was the royal residence of Mukane family. The palace is remarkable structure built from pink syinite which was brought from Kalidhond which is 5 km from away. The building is in good shape with 30 large rooms and some part is still used by its owners. It also has wall paintings, stuffed animals and small canon on display.

Purana Quila (Old fort)

Purana Quila is now in ruined conditions and the signs of its fortifications are visible. The ruins of old place and other structures can be seen here.

Dadarkopara (Dabhosa) Waterfall

Dabhosa Waterfall is within 20 km on the Jawahar - Silvassa road. Lendi River flow from 300 foot high forming a waterfall and comes to its full glory during monsoon. A small trek is to be done to reach the base of waterfall.

Hanuman Point

Also known as Devkobacha Kada, Hanuman point is known for beautiful sunrise and also panaromic view of surrounding valley and Jai Vilas Place is visible. The point is named after Katya Maruti Mandir which is on surrounded of dark forest of cactus before the valley.

Sunset Point

As the name suggests, this picture square place offers fantastic sunset view.

Shirpamal

Shirpamal is the structure built by Vikramshah, the King of Jawhar to welcome Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is said that Shivaji Maharaj stayed here on his journey to Surat.

Kal Mandavi Waterfall

Kal Mandavi waterfall is natural waterfall and available throughout the year. The beautiful waterfall is the 100 meter high and popular for trekking, rock climbing and even rappelling.

Khad Khad Dam

This is one of the popular dams nested in greenery. This beautiful place provides a peaceful natural ambience to soothe tourist.

Jai Sagar Dam

Built in 1956 by the Royal Family, this dam is sign of royal family's dedication for social wellbeing.

Warli Paintings

Jawahar is home to the Warli tribes and are continuing their unique traditions and customs. The Warli paintings are well known in Dahanu region. Nearest airport is Mumbai, nearest railway station is Igatpuri with 61 km and Dahanu with 62 km. MSRTC city bus service, auto rickshaws and private vehicle options are available.
