Padmanabhapuram Palace was the official residence of the rulers of Travancore from 16th to 17th centuries. The carved rosewood ceilings, exquisite mural paintings, sculptured decor make it master piece of Kerala's native style of architecture. Among others the attractions of the palace includes the King's bedroom with a four poster medicinal bed, Royal balcony, council chamber, granite dance hall, unique lamps, secret underground passages, pooja rooms with jackfruit tree columns, enormous teak beams, Belgian mirrors and an outer cyclopean stone wall fitted together without mortar.

The Thiruvalluvar memorial statue is a 133 feet stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and saint Tiruvalluvar, author of the Thirukkural. The 3 tier pedestal known as Atharapeedam of 38 feet height represents 38 chapters in the Book of Aram and the statute of 95 feet over it (95 represents the total chapters in Porul and Inbam).
