Konark Sun Temple, Puri


Konark Sun Temple is top milestone of Kalinga architecture of solar chariot with twelve pairs of ornamented wheels pulled by seven rearing horses. Dedicated to Sun God, Konark temple was constructed by Raja Narasinghs Deva-I of the Ganga Dynasty during 13th century. The temple has a sanctum with a lofty sikhara, a jagamohana and a nata-mandira (hall of dance) with other subsidiary shrines. The temple is now in damaged and the sculptures found while excavating exhibits in the Sun Temple Museum of Archaeological Survey of India. The museum has four galleries showcasing more than 250 sculptures on display.
