Located on Old Mumbai Pune Highway, Karla & Bhaja caves rock cut caves show old sign of Buddhist temple art in India. These Buddhist caves are dating back 2nd century BC to 6-7 century AD.

Korigad Fort, Lonavala

(20 km from Lonavla, 196 km from Satara, 244 km from Nashik, 110 km from Mumbai, 322 km from Kolhapur.)

Located in Aamby Valley, it is easy trekking site and can go from Peth-Shahapur road or Ambavne. It offers spectacular view of surrounding hills. Nearest Railway Station is Lonavla. MSRTC buses/autorikshaws/private vehicles from Lonavla/Pune city to Shahpur are available. It is better to hire a private vehicle or a cab.

Lohgad, Lonavla, Pune

(8 km from Lonavla, 55 km from Pune, 101 km from Mumbai, 163 km from Satara, 233 km from Nashik.)

Lohgad is widespread and strong fort which has four entrances. It is also popular among trekkers for easy trek. Nearest Railway Station is Malavli with 5 km. ST buses and shared cabs are available from Malavali and Lonavla Station.

Visapur Fort, Lonavla, Pune

Visapur Fort is bigger and at a higher height than its twin fort- Lohgad. Within the fort are caves, water, the ruins of the Peshwa's palace, carving of Hanuman and several temples. Nearest Railway Station is Malavli with 5 km. ST buses and shared cabs are available from Malavali and Lonavla Station.

Trekking and Monsoon Spots in Lonavala

Rajmachi and Kondana Caves, Pune

(20 km form Lonavala, 16 km from Karjat, 75 km from Pune, 110 km from Mumbai.)

The fortification structure of Rajmachi consists of two forts- Shrivardhan fort and Manoranjan fort built by Chhatrapati Shivaji. It can be reached by two ways, the tough route from Kondivide village near Karjat (4 km) and the other easy but long way route from Lonavala (20 km) (Lonavala-> Tungarli-> Udhivade->Rajmachi). In monsoon time, this place is flourished with giant waterfalls and greenery. The Buddhist caves of Kondana are located on the western slope of Rajmachi plateau. It can be avoided during monsoons as trekking becomes extremely difficult during these times.

Nearest railway station is Lonavala and Karjat. MSRTC buses and private buses are available for Lonavala/Karjat. Autorikshaws are available from Karjat and Lonavala to reach base village.

Stay can be possible at the caves on the fort or at Kalbhairavnath Temple and the villagers at the top of the fort make the food arrangements.

Bhushi Dam, Lonavala

(5 km from Lonavala, 71 km from Pune, 92 km from Mumbai, 178 km from Satara, 304 km from Kolhapur.)

It is famous weekend spot during rainy season. When Bushy Dam overflows, water steps down on footsteps making fun. Nearest railway station is Lonavala. MSRTC buses/private, private vehicles are available from Pune.

Duke's Nose, Lonavala

(5 km from Khandala, 12 km from Lonavala, 50 km from Pune city, 110 km from Mumbai city.)

Named after Duke Wellington it is cliff near Khandala on Sahyadri. It is easy trekking point. Nearest Railway Station is Khandala. Autorikshaws are available from Khandala and Lonavala. MSRTC buses, private vehicles are available from Pune and Mumbai.
