Bara Imambara, Lucknow

Features

Also called as Asafi Imambara, it is big shrine complex built by Asaf-ud-Daula, Nawab of Lucknow, in 1784. The central hall is said to be largest arched hall without beams supporting the ceiling. Apart from chambers, it has mosque, the bhulbhulayah (the labyrinth), and bowli, a step well with running water. A staircase leads to a series of labyrinths which is a complicated entanglement of zig-zag pass.
