Vipassana International Academy and Research Institute

Also knonw as Dhamma Giri (Hill of Dhamma) is one of the world's largest Vipassana meditation centres. The Academy is one of the world's largest centers for the practice of Vipassana, offering on-going 10 day meditation courses, serving upto 600 people per course, throughout the year. It is co-located with the Vipassana Research Institute at Igatpuri in Maharastra, approximately three hours’ drive from Mumbai. The Vipassana Research Institute (VRI) was established in 1985 for the purpose of conducting research into the sources and applications of the Vipassana Meditation Technique.

The Vippasana Center has the huge golden Myanmar gate, Vijay Stambh and around 20 huge Buddha paintings at the enquiry office. On request, visitors are allowed to watch a 17 minute video narrating the history, importance, rules and regulations of Dhamma Giri.
