Agnigarh hill, Tezpur

The sculptural remains of Bamuni hills dates back to 9th Century. The sculptures are famous for fine refinement and artistic beauty. Main sculpture among others is a cross- shaped bracket lintel ornamented with horned Kirtimukha panels with 10 incarnations of Vishnu.

Chitralekha Udyan (Cole Park), Tezpur

Features

Chitralekha Udyan is picture square garden built by Mr. Cole, a Commissioner of Assam and reconstructed by Mr. M.G.V.K. Bhanu, the deputy Commissioner of Tezpur, in 1996. This beautiful garden has ancient ornamented stone pillars, sculptural relics, lush green walkways small amphitheatre and water sports facilities at the lake. The famous Bhomoraguri inscription which recorded the ancient plans to build a bridge across the Brahmaputra (where the current Kolia Bhomora Setu exists) has been transported to this park for public viewing.

Da-Parbaitia temple is the oldest specimen of sculptural architecture style of Gupta school of art. The 6th century temple is in ruins and remains only of door frame. The two pillars of door frame has the stone carvings of the two Goddesses Ganga and Yamuna holding garlands in their hands.

Sri Sri Mahabhairav Temple, Tezpur

Located at a hillock on the northern part of Tezpur, Mahabhairav temple has one of the largest and oldest Shiva lingams in the world. The original temple was built by King Bana and renovated by subsequent rulers. The present structure of the temple was built by a devotee and monk Sri Swayambar Bharati, popularly known as Naga Baba. The temple complex also has other temples built by devotees.
