Champaner-Pavagadh (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Vadodara

Features

Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park is located in the surrounding area of Champaner city which was built by Sultan Mahmud Begada. The Archaeological site has fort, palaces, entrance gates, arches, mosques, tombs, temples, stepwells and tanks etc. dating from the 8th to the 14th centuries. However the main attraction of the site is the architecture of the mosques at the base of Pavangadh hills. If you are religious person, visit the Kalika Mata Temple at the top of Pavangadh hills and attracts large number of pilgrims during the year.

Laxmi Vilas Palace & Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, Vadodara

Features

Laxmi Vilas Palace was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III during 1890. The palace is majestic structure of monument built in Indo- Saracenic architectural style. The palace also has small museum called Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum which depicts paintings from India as well as Europe, sculptures, artefacts and paintings by Raja Ravi Verma.

Sayaji Bagh and Baroda Museum, Vadodara

Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III built Sayaji Bagh for the residents of Baroda. It has rich flora of different kinds. Baroda Museum/Gallery, Sardar Patel Planetarium and Sayaji Baugh Zoo are situated in the Sayaji Bagh. Baroda Museum/Gallery has good collection of sculpture, art, paintings from India as well as outside India. Situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, Sayaji Baugh Zoo has huge collection of different animals including Asiatic lion. It also has aquarium which showcases species of fish.
