Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake of North East India and said that only floating lake in the world for the floating phumdis on it. Phumdis are a series of small floating islands and composes of heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil, and organic matters at various stages of decomposition. Loktak plays important role in the economy of the state by a source of water for hydropower generation, irrigation, drinking water supply, fishing and livelihood means. The lake area is rich in flora and fauna and has 200 species of plants, 400 species of animal and profound bird species. Keibul Lamjao National Park, the world's largest floating park, is located at the south-eastern part of the lake and famous for endangered Eld's Deer subspecies, Sangai. Water sports like Water-skiing, Sail Boating, Wind Surfing, Sail Boating are available at Takmu Water Sports Complex.
