Idukki Wildlife Sanctuar,  Idukki  


The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary spreads over an area of 105.364 square km in the Thodupuzha Taluka and Udumpanchola Taluka of Idukki district. The common wildlife animals of the sanctuary includes Elephant, Sambar, Barking Deer, Mouse deer, Bonnet macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Malabar giant squirrel, Wild dog, Wild boar, porcupine, jackal, Indian Giant Squirrel etc. The world renowned Idukki Arch Dam located adjacent to the sanctuary is the added attraction of the sanctuary trip. The Idukki arch dam, is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam built between two huge granite hills- 'Kuravanmala' and 'Kurathimala' across the river Periyar.

Nearest airport is at Madurai with 140 and Cochin with 200 km. Nearest railway station is Kottayam with 110 km. It is better to hire private vehicle from Thodupuzha and other cities.
